Daviza Tours 7-Day Nature & Caves tour

Day 1.

Transfer from Budapest Airport to Mezokövacsháza, a village in Southern Hungary where we will stay overnight in a rurally-situated guesthouse.

Day 2.

We depart in a north-easterly direction towards the Hungarian border. Once we have crossed the border we continue eastward and will soon see the Apuseni mountain range appear in front of us. Before we drive into the mountain range tomorrow we will pay a visit to the “Cave of Bears.” These impressive stalactite caverns derived their name because hundreds of bear skeletons were found here when the cave was discovered. Apparently they all starved to death thousands of years ago when the entry to the cave system was blocked by a landslide.

Day 3.

This morning we follow the Arieș river upstream into the mountains, until we reach village of Gârda de Sus. The chalet-like guesthouse here will become our base for the next few days. From this base we will set out on numerous beautiful hikes and excursions to isolated caves. For the afternoon we have already planned our first, scenic mountain walk.

Days 4 and 5

We have mountain walks and excursions to several caves on our agenda these two days, including a visit to the unique Scârișoara ice cave. Inside this particular cave, the air temperature hardly exceeds the freezing-point even when the outside temperature reaches up to thirty degrees centigrade during summertime! The caves floor is a thirty-five meter solid block of ice! We will visit other (river) caves too, some of which are quite a challenge to reach by foot, but still well worth the effort.

Day 6.

Today we leave the Apuseni mountains and Romania and drive back to Hungary where we will spend our last night.

Day 7.

Transfer to Budapest Airport in the morning, where our trip comes to an end.
